Mission Statement
We are altering our mission statement. We are changing direction in order to reflect some of the progress we
have made in laboratory and infusion medicine over the past 4 years. We hope to set ourselves apart from any
other medical practice, anywhere. Our focus has shifted from managing chronic illness to truly making an
impact in th lives of our patients. We are attempting to cure chronic illness rather than merely participate in
perpetuating disease under guidelines of one or another allopathic or naturopathic association of medicine.
We are of course quite familiar and comfortable with all these guidelines but as many of our patients do, we
too believe that there is more. We are practicing in what we believe everyday with outstanding results. We
continue to believe in every word you are about to read in our original mission statement.
We are dedicated to providing sound, sensible, sensitive, convenient and timely care to our patients.

First and foremost, we aim to provide sound medical care by adhering to well-established guidelines in the
prevention and treatment of serious medical conditions. We have both been a part of developing and
implementing these guidelines in our previous positions in San Francisco and Los Angeles Counties. We feel
that because of our training and experience in the treatment of critical illness we are apt to recognize and
appropriately address serious problems as they may arise in any patient, but especially in those in the more
advanced age groups with multi-system disease. Besides the usual medical office offerings, we will have
preventive and special monitoring programs such as comprehensive programs for the treatment of diabetes,
heart failure, chronic lung disease and conditions requiring anticoagulation.

Additionally, given our understanding and interest in alternative and preventive health care we aim to limit
potentially bothersome and unnecessary medication side effects by avoiding their use whenever possible in the
treatment of conditions that would otherwise respond to life-style modifications and use of non-pharmacological
measures.

We aim to use sensible measures to maintain the health of our patients. We recognize that regardless of how
technically knowledgeable health care providers may be the most important sense in treating patients is
“common sense”. We are dedicated to working with our patients to design individualized programs to cater to
their individual needs. Our philosophy is that no two individuals are the same and as such no single recipe will
work the same for any two individuals. We will work with our patients to formulate these individualized treatment
plans and help implement them in a way to cater to the varying needs and abilities of each individual.

We feel strongly that appropriate medical care goes way beyond simply following the most up to date guidelines
and ordering the most sophisticated lab tests and prescribing the latest medications. Although we are
committed to providing care with a smile and making our interactions as positive as possible, we also recognize
that sensitivity in health care goes way beyond good bedside manner and hand holding. We also realize that
being sensitive means paying attention to the individual patient’s ability and willingness to follow instructions,
comply with appropriate regimens and ability to pay for necessary medications. We will provide our patients with
written instructions and printouts of medication lists at each visit in order to avoid confusion whenever possible.
We are also not naive in regards to dealing with pharmaceutical company advertising. We recognize that the
only advantage that many new, expensive medications have over older, less expensive medications is that they
benefit the manufacturer. We critically review the pro’s and con’s of new medication in each setting and work to
reduce the costs of medical care to the patient as much as possible. We feel that this is our role in both the
individual setting as well as on a broader social level. We all pay for the price of health care on one level or
another. We recognize that our choices as individuals affect society as a whole and we aim to strike the
appropriate balance in each case.

We recognize the challenges and inconveniences of everyday life. We hope to remove any obstacles that stand
in the way of our patients receiving timely and convenient medical care. In this way we hope to prevent treatable,
acute medical problems from turning into serious, chronic conditions. This again, not only provides the best care
for each and every one of our patients but also benefits our community. We hope to achieve this by not
scheduling appointments for one to two hours a day, every day. These hours will be dedicated to same day
appointments for patients that develop urgent medical problems. In this way patients can be seen and treated by
their own health care provider rather than having to either wait until their conditions progress or to go to
emergency rooms where long waits and unreliable care by unfamiliar health care providers often lead to sub-
optimal outcomes. Furthermore, we will frequently provide after hours appointments and Saturday office hours in
order to maximize our availability.

We recognize that a significant source of inconvenience and frustration to our patients is having to make one
appointment for the doctor, one appointment for lab tests and then never hearing about the results of those tests.
We are dedicated to providing laboratory  services at the time of each visit. We have invested in the latest
laboratory equipment and trained our staff in order to provide most blood and urine tests on site. In many cases
the blood can be obtained through finger sticks rather than drawing multiple tubes of blood through a vein
puncture. Additionally, most tests can be run on instruments in our office with results available within 10 minutes.
In most cases the results will be shared with you and appropriate treatment plan changes will be made prior to
the end of your visit in the office.
